The Las Vegas Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1907 and served the city of Las Vegas, Nevada and 150 square miles of Clark County. The named changed to Las Vegas Fire Department when a full-time fire chief was hired on August 1, 1942 and 12 full-time firefighters were hired three months later. Over the years, the department expanded and began integrating emergency medical services on December 9, 1973. The department name was changed once again to Las Vegas Fire and Rescue in 1999.
